Personal Touch: Google Launches Gemini’s Data Integration Features in India

Google just took a massive step toward making its AI feel like a true personal assistant for millions of people in India. On Tuesday, the company announced the launch of Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature in the country. This update allows users to link their private Google data (like Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive) directly to the Gemini app. Instead of hunting through your inbox for a flight confirmation, you can just ask Gemini to do it for you.

The feature aims to stop the constant “app switching” that slows down your day. For example, if you are planning a trip to Jaipur, you can ask Gemini, “What are my travel plans for Jaipur?” The AI will scan your emails for hotel bookings and your photos for relevant screenshots to give you a single, clear answer. It can even check your YouTube history to suggest restaurants you might have seen in a travel vlog. This update follows a successful rollout in the United States in January and a more recent launch in Japan.

Smarter Bookings and Agentic AI

This launch comes right on the heels of another big update for the Indian market. Last week, Google enabled an agentic flow for restaurant reservations. By partnering with local giants like Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner, Gemini can now handle the entire booking process. You can tell the AI your preferred cuisine, time, and party size, and it will check real-time availability across these platforms and provide a direct link to book your table. This turns Google Search into a tool that does not just find information, but actually completes real-world tasks.

Privacy and Accuracy

Google is being very open about the risks of letting an AI read your personal data. They warned that Gemini can still struggle with nuance, especially with sensitive life changes like a divorce or a shift in hobbies. If Gemini assumes you still love golf because it sees old photos, but you have actually sold your clubs, you can simply correct it. The company also confirmed that while they use your prompts to improve the service, they do not train the AI directly on your private Gmail or Photo library.

For now, Personal Intelligence is limited to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in India. However, Google plans to bring these features to free users in the coming weeks. The feature is turned off by default, so you have to manually opt-in to connect your accounts. As Google pushes more advanced features into one of its biggest markets, the line between a search engine and a personal secretary is getting thinner every day.
