LinkedIn is taking direct aim at the tidal wave of low-quality, automated text flooding modern social feeds. The professional platform announced a new reporting feature that lets members flag synthetic posts by clicking a button labeled “Seems like AI slop.” The update comes as professionals grow frustrated with generic, computer-generated posts, fake thought leadership, and robotic comment spam filling their daily feeds.
This anti-slop update matches a broader push across digital platforms to clean up automated web content. Newsletter service Substack recently introduced detection tools powered by Pangram to warn readers when posts rely on artificial text generation. Pangram itself secured $9 million in fresh venture funding to build automated detection software across web platforms. Meanwhile, early web giant Digg shut down its Reddit competitor in March after automated bots completely overran its discussion threads. Internet infrastructure provider Cloudflare recently warned that automated bot traffic now outpaces human web requests across global networks, reaching that milestone much faster than previous industry estimates.
In an official update post, LinkedIn Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan admitted that the Microsoft-owned professional platform faces heavy pressure from artificial content generation. He stressed that stopping low-quality automated posts is a top operational focus for the engineering team. Professionals visit LinkedIn to connect with real colleagues and read authentic career experiences, so keeping generic bot writing out of main feeds remains critical to keeping users active on the site.
The new reporting option works alongside internal security systems designed to catch automated behavior. LinkedIn safety systems block hundreds of thousands of fake comment attempts every single day, while stopping millions of automated platform actions every month. The new user reporting flag provides direct human feedback to refine internal AI classification algorithms, helping systems identify subtle patterns found in synthetic content.
LinkedIn is also launching new automated content classifiers designed to suppress synthetic text across recommended post feeds. Beyond suppressing spam in main feeds, LinkedIn plans to add private alerts directly inside user editing dashboards. If an account relies too heavily on text generators while drafting an update, the platform will send a private warning stating that the draft sounds inauthentic. This nudge helps authentic creators catch bad writing habits without publicly shaming them for using basic grammar software.
As part of this clean-up effort, LinkedIn is pulling its native “enhance your post” drafting feature, which previously generated full paragraphs of AI text for users. The company is replacing that tool with a basic proofreading assistant that corrects grammar and spelling without rewriting original thoughts or replacing individual writing style.
Additional safety upgrades include expanding identity verification badges across individual profiles and company pages. LinkedIn is also rolling out a blocking feature that allows users to permanently mute comment privileges from unwanted company pages, giving members total control over their personal post discussions.
