Instant Permitting: Blueprints AI Generates Code-Compliant Construction Plans in Minutes

Architectural startup Blueprints AI built software capable of generating fully code-compliant, permit-ready construction blueprints from simple 2D sketches or PDF documents. Founded in Santa Monica by architect Ali Oram and data scientist Coco Cao, the company earned a spot to exhibit in the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield 200. Oram spent nearly two decades pursuing automated architectural drafting after writing his college thesis on generating design documents programmatically, officially launching the company following recent advances in generative software.

Traditional architectural firms spend roughly 80 percent of their billable hours handling manual drafting and technical documentation, leaving only 20 percent for active design work. Oram created Blueprints AI to flip that ratio completely, allowing architects to spend 80 percent of their time on design and 20 percent on technical revisions. Automating repetitive drafting tasks speeds up project timelines and removes major administrative bottlenecks across commercial and residential building projects.

Blueprints AI trained its core models on eight years of approved technical drawing sets from Oram’s active design-build firm. The platform’s first-generation software produces complete architectural plans ranging between $3,200 and $8,500 per month depending on project tiers. Now, the team is debuting a second-generation version that accepts basic project descriptions or initial sketches to build fully integrated blueprints across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior design disciplines simultaneously.

Version 2 allows users to make instant design changes across an entire building model. Adjusting a single wall or layout parameter automatically updates every associated technical sheet across the project package while checking dimensions against local building codes. Furthermore, the engineering team is already developing a third-generation system that incorporates advanced structural analysis and electrical panel calculations directly into generated documents.

Despite automating complex drafting workflows, the platform does not replace licensed architects or structural engineers. Blueprints AI acts as an internal drafting engine, producing complete technical packages that licensed professionals review, modify, and officially stamp before submitting plans to municipal building departments. Keeping human experts in the loop ensures legal compliance while accelerating permit approvals.

The company sells software subscriptions and one-off project packages to professional architecture firms, engineering groups, real estate developers, and property owners. Removing manual drafting delays speeds up construction timelines and reduces pre-development costs for housing projects, commercial facilities, and municipal buildouts. Automating technical documentation frees architectural teams to focus on quality building design while keeping construction pipelines moving efficiently.
