Ecosystem Expansion: Meta Powers Up Muse Agent With Custom Avatars and Hardware Access

Meta rolled out major functional additions to its personal artificial intelligence agent, Muse, expanding what the software can handle across desktop systems, wearable hardware, and connected apps. Following the initial launch of the agent in early September, Meta unveiled these updates during its Connect conference in Menlo Park, targeting deeper integration with daily tasks.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described Muse as the foundation of the company’s long-term artificial intelligence roadmap. To make interactions more natural, Meta built a real-time avatar model, allowing users to create custom digital personas for their agent. Users can hold live voice and video conversations with their personalized avatar, asking questions or issuing commands on the fly.

Wearable technology represents a core pillar of Meta’s update plan. The company is bringing Muse to its smart glasses lineup, allowing users to trigger the agent using hands-free voice controls. The agent runs quietly in the background to log workout stats, record meals, schedule calendar appointments, and purchase products spotted through the glasses lens, sending confirmation alerts once tasks finish.

Meta is also expanding Muse onto Mac computers. Desktop integration allows the agent to control native applications, execute workflows, and handle file operations directly on the user’s computer. Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang noted that giving the agent direct desktop access helps small business owners and remote workers automate repetitive administrative tasks.

Communication channels are getting an upgrade as well. Meta is assigning dedicated, standalone email addresses to Muse agents. Users can forward incoming messages directly to their agent or loop it into active email threads to handle scheduling, draft responses, and summarize complex attachments.

Commerce and third-party app connections form another major expansion area. Meta announced financial processing partnerships with Stripe, Shopify, and PayPal, while integrating retail connectors for platforms like Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, Wayfair, Expedia, GitHub, Granola, and Notion. Instacart integration is arriving soon as well.

To grow the platform further, Meta opened connector development to outside software creators. Within six days of opening access, the company received more than 1,500 applications from external developers eager to build custom software tools for Muse.

While Meta offers free access to a base tier of computing tokens, the company plans to monetize high-volume usage through subscription tiers and tiny transaction fees on commerce purchases. By connecting custom visual avatars, wearable hardware, desktop tools, and retail channels, Meta is building a unified software ecosystem centered around autonomous personal agents.
